Gerald Chukwuma was born in May 1973. He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2003 with first Class honours. He has participated in 12 group exhibitions, between 2000 – 2006, and has won several awards including the International Committee for the Red Cross recommendation award, and the university price for the best graduating art student (class of 2003). His works which has gradually matured over the years have adorned many public and private places in Nigeria including The Pan African University Lagos and the Transcorp Hilton Abuja.
Gerald has successfully shifted his pictorial ground from the conventional canvas to wood panels. His philosophy that colours are the only means of conveying visions or intuition – not able to be expressed neither in ideas nor in words has also expanded over the years. Colours and texture now make it possible for one soul to communicate with another.
Gerald is of the opinion that an artist stops being creative when the child in him becomes an adult. |
